Chergey Insurance was founded by Richard Chergey in 1987 with the intent of specializing as a commercial insurance brokerage. Richard had 20 years of insurance sales and company experience prior to setting up his own brokerage. His ability to offer various insurance carriers allowed him to provide greater value to customers. Richard’s motto was “the carrier does not pay us – the client does when they elect to do business with Chergey Insurance.” Therefore, Richard’s philosophy was simple – “always put the client first and do what is best for them”. The business’ beginnings involved developing strong relationships between customers and various insurance carriers. Richard started out servicing the auto industry and later expanded to other areas of commercial insurance. He was well-respected throughout the insurance industry and was dedicated to his craft until his retirement in 2008. Richard now resides in Pismo Beach, CA.
Dan Chergey, Richard’s son, took over as President in 2005. Prior to joining Chergey Insurance full-time in 1998, Dan played professional baseball as a pitcher for the Florida Marlins. Since taking over the company, Dan has raised the brokerage to new levels. Not only in premium growth but also in coverage as Chergey Insurance services clients all over the state of California. Currently, the business employs 10 commercial insurance experts and is continuing to grow all while maintaining the “client comes first” philosophy.
