Westlake Risk & Insurance Services, Inc. is one of the largest independent insurance agencies in the country. The agency is an affiliate of United Agencies, which gives us an edge over most other agencies their size. Westlake Risk has full access to all insurance markets and can write policies in every major category, and in all states.
Westlake Risk is a full service agency, providing services in commercial insurance, workers compensation, and employee benefits. The average overall experience per team member is in excess of 20 years.
Born and raised in Southern California, Steve graduated from California State University, San Bernardino with a double major in Business Economics and Finance. During his collegiate time at Cal State, Steve was a scholarship member of the Men’s Baseball Team and played in the College World Series.
He began his career as a direct sales representative with Federated Mutual Insurance Company in 1992, before joining Sullivan Curtis Monroe (SCM) in 1999. At SCM, Steve developed Comprehensive Insurance programs for the Hospitality, Construction, and Auto Dealerships before setting out to form Westlake Risk & Insurance Services, Inc. in 2009.
Steve is a major shareholder in Westlake Risk & Insurance Services, where he currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors, as well as President. He has earned designations as a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
Other involvements include working with local non-profits managing both youth baseball and softball travel programs. Steve’s involvement with these programs allows youth players to achieve great success at a high level, while also developing the interpersonal and competitive skills necessary to achieve success with future endeavors.
Westlake Risk & Insurance along with its affiliate, Benefits America, has enjoyed significant growth, and is now considered one of the largest privately held Insurance Brokerages in the United States. Peter Winter - Partner
As President of the Employee Benefits Division, Peter Winter, CLU brings over 35 years of experience to Westlake Risk & Insurance Services. Peter has a very technical background with his Bachelors from Cal Poly and his Masters from Cal Tech in Pasadena. He is also a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and a student of the business.
Peter has taught SHRM employee benefits courses through UCSB extension. Peter has been on both the carrier side and the agency side of the business. His past experience includes careers with Aetna, Sedgwick and USI where he built their employee benefits practice from the ground up to a vibrant consulting group.
He has returned to his roots in Ventura County where he has lived for the past 38 years. His large group consulting experience will be invaluable to all size clients. Take advantage of his expertise and skill set to develop strategies for your own employee benefits programs.
